What is Organic Food? How is Organic Food Grown?                                                                            Picture Our Brocoli Crop 2004

Conventional product- usually refers to products that are grown on farms where chemicals could possibly be used in the growing, storing and manufacturing process. Chemicals in soil fertilizers and to keep the seeds in storage. Weedicides can be used to kill weeds. Insecticides can be used to kill pests. Fungicides for fungus in the crops and the list goes on. Pesticides and chemicals can be used to store product and extend shelf life. This is before it is even processed. Wouldn't it be nice to get clean pure food. This website is part of the solution.

Certified Organic product (each proudly displaying their Certification), which basically means that the goods we supply to you are produced under very strict guidelines and are monitored by governing bodies that ensure the goods you purchase are grown and produced organically. This means our farmers guarantee everything that we sell you in terms of quality.  Certification is your only guarantee that the products you buy are what you are paying for.

Sometimes we have organic or biodynamic product which has things added to it, like small amount of preservative (wine is one example) or fruit flavouring etc which still allows it to be certified, but it is not ideal (these products are far better than any of its conventional counterparts). In this case we will always notify you of  the ingredient in it's description.

How can you be sure it's really Organic ?
Certified Organic produce has been carefully inspected by one of the following independent certification bodies in Australia:

Biodynamic Research Institute (BDRI)
The first Certification organisation in Australia was the Biodynamic Research Institute, which oversees the Biodynamic Farmers Association of Australia and the Demeter standard. This body only certifies high quality Biodynamic produce.

National Association for Sustainable Agriculture of Australia (NASAA)

NASAA certifies produce as organic or biodynamic. Either ‘certified organic’ or ‘certified conversion’

Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA/ACO)
The Biological Farmers of Australia.  Produce can be either ‘A Level’ or ‘in conversion’.

.

Organic Growers of Australia (OGA)
Organic Herb Growers of Australia mainly certifies small organic herb and vegetable producers.

Tasmanian Organic – Dynamic Producers (TOP)
The Tasmanian Organic-dynamic Producers cooperative (TOP) certifies organic and biodynamic food grown or made in Tasmania .

Organic Food Chain (OFC)
The Organic Food Chain is a relatively new certification organisation in Australia.

Safe Food Queensland (SAFE)
